I first read these books as they came out in the early 1970s. Since then, they have totally altered my life-view, and the love affair and marriage I now have with this sacred life and the Sacred Earth and Sky. Totally changed me, for the better.And I have tried and tried to figure out the source or sources for what Mr. (Dr.) Castañeda consulted to create these master works. No matter what else he was (a real bum and a fraud are often heard), he did the world of men a favor by creating these first four books.I think the sources are mainly Daoist, and mainly the older books such as the Nei, Tao-Tsang, Chuang-Tzu, and others. Amazingly, I'm still learning! Join me--there is so much to learn about the sacredness of Everything.
A worthy successor to Castaneda's Teachings of Don Juan. It takes things to the next step, pushing the boundaries of what you thought you knew about this world. I have read criticisms of Castaneda's work previously, but this reader can honestly say in her 47 years of experience that she has read nothing in Castaneda's work thus far that is untrue or misleading. Knowledge of shamanic ways is a help in understanding, but even without that, the material is well written and easy to understand.
I love all of Carlos's books. It's like being there with them on their journey.
The book seems to be explaining the effects of an acid trip or several acid trips.It might have been better received in 1965 to 1970 than it is today. Well written but the subject matter was a bit odd!
My favorite Castaneda book.

As always, Carlos writing is exciting, eloquent , amazing and you can't put it down once you start.For those of you new to Carlos Castaneda's works, start with The Teachings of Don Juan - all books in his series are worthwhile reading and comptemplation. Highly recommended
