From the Back Cover
Forget Yiddish. Real Jewish is a secret language of nuance, argument, and somersaults of everyday speech; of wins, losses, and draws in competitions you had no idea you’d entered. It’s everything from mastering the OAQ (Obsessive Anal Question)―“They’ll de-ice the wings before takeoff right?â€â€•to never, ever believing your mother-in-law when she says, “Don’t bother driving me, I’ll take a cab.†Now in a revised and expanded second edition that’s bigger, better, and with more guilt, this is the indispensable guide.

Omgosh, I don't even know where to begin to express how much I adore this book! It is the absolute most riotous book EVER! I so love it and have to refrain from reading it in bed with my husband for the simple reason that I have kept him up ALL night ***cackling*** up a storm in bed when he is trying to fall asleep! So now I read it when I'm on long lines at the post office, etc, or just when I want to laugh my tuchus off, lol. It is incredible though how much you realize about yourself, your friends and especially your family when you see that their once thought eccentricities/quirks/idiosyncrasies are inherent to your yiddishkeit roots. I have purchased this book as gifts and without question, I could read this delightful and wonderfully enjoyable book over and over and OVER again and AGAIN!.....I love you, Molly Katz!!!!! Thanks so much for all the laughs and great memories from reading this with my husband, family and friends!
I laughed until I cried on just about every page. I had planned to read this on the commuter train, but I be busting up laughing. I'm a recent convert to The Tribe, and I'm laughing at how Jewish I've been all my life. Oy. Read it and plots.
Excellent updated version of the original. Still funny as ever. Did omit, I think, some of the material from the first book that should have been retained. (I lent out, and never got back, my copy of the first edition, so I can't compare, but I seem to remember something about "lovelynotes" in the first that I haven't found in the second.)Still, definitely worth buying and reading. So you'll buy... you'll read... you'll laugh till your nauseous! LOL
This is the 6th book of this that I have purchased as gifts. I bought the first one several years ago and recently bought this updated version. Every time I read this book with friends and/or family, whether Jewish or not, we laugh! It does help if someone is NOT Jewish, to at least be an 'east-coaster' or someone who has been brought up around lots of Jews. There are so many truly hysterical parts to this wonderful book! It is timeless humor. Trust me, don't just buy one as you will most likely give it away like I did!
YIDDISH was my Second Language. I bought this bought a few months ago and have shared it with my friends. Its a fun informative book. I am now ordering another copy to gift it to a friend who is home recovering from a serious operation. It will definitely put a smile on his face.
This book is funny well written and worth worth every penny. I bought this for my mother as a gift and she loves it. I don't have much time for leisure reading any more but I have borrowed it from her and found time for it myself. I highly recommend this book!
This book is hilarious! I laughed til' I cried and intend to read it again! Highly recommend!
I haven't finished it but there are a lot of laughs. I hate the stereotyping, but, having been brought up in a home and having had relatives, I know of whom she speaks.
